One of the most amazing, and yet least understood ancient structures in Egypt is the Osirion, located at Abydos, behind, below and connected to the Temple of Seti I. The Osirion was completely buried under the sands of time. The first thing that strikes the visitor is the enormous size of the red granite blocks used in its construction, and it is easy to draw architectural parallels with similar megalithic structures, like the Valley Temple, and the Sphinx Temple at Giza.
The similarities are inescapable β the stark and simple megalithic design, the lack of prolific inscriptions, and the fact that some of the larger stone blocks weigh up to tons. Add into that fact that the granite was quarried in Aswan, more than km away. The size of the blocks and level of precision at the Osirion, as well as the Valley and Sphinx Temples at Giza strongly suggest that the dynastic Egyptians, who supposedly constructed them in fact did not have the technology required for such an undertaking.
The fact that the marks are found under the lintel, and that the Osirion has been buried in sand for prolonged periods of time would have protected these works from deterioration.
