The course meets daily for eight weeks. A woman from the departmental office sticks her head in the door and apologizes, saying they are making efforts to get in contact with the professor and asks us to come back the next day.
The professor is tenured. No class discussion is devoted toward examining themes, character motivations or other things traditionally found in a literature or English class. Instead, weekly quizzes require us to memorize minor descriptive details from each work we read. The quizzes have questions like: How many alligator statues are part of the fountain in [scene 1], three or four?
What color are the curtains in [scene 2]? How many houses are on [Street Name] in [scene 3]? One day, another student complains that the class is so unlike other literature classes. The rest of us jump in and provide a few examples as to why we think this is a bad thing. Have you ever served a bad customer who got what they deserved? The class goes into an uproar.
