Named after the first emperor of the Roman Empire, Caesar Augustus pours golden straw in colour and supports a thin, silky white head. On the nose we are greeted with pale malts, a touch of caramel, a citric zest mainly grapefruit , and some bread and earthy notes.
Many of these flavours carry over onto the palate with a focus on the zesty character, a biscuit quality is a pleasant addition as well as stronger notes of earth. The finish is clean, crisp, dry, citric and bitter, with grapefruit citrus lingering. There is a dry mouthfeel, a disappointing low body, and a medium level of carbonation. The lacing is good, albeit rather patchy, but definitely better than expected with the head being almost non-existent and quick to dissipate even further.
