Cherry wood as a tonewood Post by petermc61 » Sun Jun 09, pm I am interested in the views of any luthiers about cherry wood as a tonewood, or from any owners who have actually played one. When I searched the forum I saw a few topics mentioning cherry wood with comments saying it was a viable alternative tone wood but in summary too unfashionable and cheap to be ever ordered by clients!
Now, to save time I already know the soundboard makes the bigger difference and the maker is also very critical - but putting those aside the tone wood also makes a quite noticeable difference.
Brazilian has a depth and brilliance, Indian a certain warmth, maple a 'creaminess' thanks James L for inventing that phrase.
