Intimate partner violence is a serious problem that is globally widespread and affects public health. Studies have shown that individuals of all genders can be victims of intimate partner violence.
The experience of intimate partner violence has severe impacts on the physical and mental health as well as the socio-economic situation of the survivors.
Despite efforts to improve the prevention and treatment of intimate partner violence, the existing support services are still inadequate. There are many barriers that prevent people from seeking professional help. Digital self-help interventions, such as online trainings and psychotherapeutic internet programs, are considered a promising approach to overcome these barriers as they can provide immediate and discreet support.
This study employs a qualitative approach to explore the needs and attitudes of individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence regarding digital self-help interventions.
Involving the survivors in the development process is important to ensure an effective and acceptable intervention for the target group. In a second sub-study, using the same study design, the attitudes and needs regarding digital self-help interventions as a support option for male survivors of intimate partner violence will be examined. IPV is a pervasive and significant public health issue worldwide.
