After ending the third quarter deep in Dakota territory, Chippewa Valley scored in the early stages of the fourth quarter thanks to a yard hookup between Briningstool and Claiborne.
It was the second touchdown connection of the game for the pair. Dakota did respond, however, as Kaiser Carleton capped an 80 yard drive with a yard touchdown run with to play. It was Carleton's fourth touchdown run of the day. Chippewa Valley did not back down, responding with a drive that went 73 yards, capped with a yard touchdown pass to Rinaldi with left. After the Chippewa Valley defense forced a quick 3-and-out series for the Dakota offense, the Big Reds took over on its own 48 with still on the clock.
However, after getting one first down, Chippewa Valley made it no further, tossing an incomplete pass on 4th and 9 on the Dakota After the Big Reds punted on its first drive, they got the ball right back after Dakota fumbled on its first play of the next drive. However, the result was a missed field goal for Chippewa Valley. Dakota then came back with a 10 play scoring drive that spanned of the clock as Carleton notched his thrid touchdown of the game.
After three short drives, Macomb Dakota made the most of the fourth drive of the second quarter, going on an 8-play, drive that was capped by a broken play.
On the play, Dakota quarterback Brett Droski fumbled the snap, picked it up and tossed it to Carleton, who scored from 9 yards out. Chippewa Valley responded very quickly, however, as a three-play drive took the Big Reds 84 yards for a touchdown. Chippewa Valley opened with a 59 yard pass from senior quarterback Patrick Briningstool to Reed Adams.
