Peninsula surrounded by a loop of the Marne, it also benefits from an important service in terms of public transport. The commune was born with the creation of an abbey at the beginning of the 7th century, under the impulse of Clovis II. Made famous by the signing of a treaty between John the Fearless and Queen Isabeau of Bavaria in , the city developed mainly around the 19th century, notably thanks to the construction of numerous housing estates. Important pilgrimage of the Blessed Virgin since the Middle Ages, it was built on the remains of a chapel of the twelfth century.
Not far away, it is possible to appreciate the site of the Abbey which reveals the remains of the religious edifice built in the 7th century.
Classified as Historical Monuments, the place reveals several traces of the ancient abbey, and animations are regularly organized there. Guided tours allow us to learn more about the history of this place with a rich history.
Two chapels are also present in the city. Private property today, it can however be admired from the outside. In the center is the Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire church. At the Villa Medicis, a free museum allows to admire several works of recognized artists and to discover regular exhibitions.
Different weekly markets take place in the city on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in the morning. A Christmas market with different animations is proposed in December. In October, the festival of short films On the Pas of my Uncle allows to attend to numerous projections, as well as to meetings. In November, the city offers Saint-Maur in all freedom s , an event on culture and human rights.
