We booked and paid in full in advance thinking this would ensure the best price. It did not! The rates by the day we arrived were less than half what we paid, and we should have cancelled and rebooked to save money. I recently booked the intercontinental BA for a 3 night stay. Unfortunately prior to my check-in the water tank had exploded and the hotel was left with no hot water and complete shut down of some of the facilities on the main floor.
The gym on the main floor and restaurants were affected. The situation could have been handled better. Not having hot water and s Not having hot water and shut down of key facilities is a major issue. The hotel staff should have immediately said to anyone checking in that there was no definitive timing of when the water situation was to be rectified and they would help the guests move hotels.
Instead, the staff gave some estimates, even saying that it might be rectified within the day. The hotel booked the Alvear Icon hotel and arranged for taxi transfer at the expense. I think situations like this should be covered by insurance and the best course of action is to be upfront. Had the best three days ever.
