A former media consultant for Inglewood has filed a lawsuit against the city and Mayor James T. Butts Jr. Doe alleges Butts retracted his promises and effectively had her fired in December after she brought up allegations of sexual harassment made by another woman. A judge threw out part of that case last month due to its late filing.
The lawsuit does not specify a dollar figure for damages. In fact, her own complaint makes that clear. It will not work. We are prepared to fight these lies all the way to trial.
Her application stated she learned about the job from Butts. A background check later found evidence of an alleged burglary conviction and Doe was asked to provide an explanation, according to Hashmall. She never did explain it and the application was dropped. He alleges the city used the incident as a pretext to revoke the job offer solely because Doe raised questions about the other sexual harassment allegation against Butts.
Doe was instead hired on a short-term contract that expired under its terms in December , according to Hashmall. The city posted only one such announcement on its website from October to January When asked about the discrepancy earlier this year, Hashmall said Doe instead helped improve information on the website and arranged interviews for the mayor with two broadcast news stations. She did not have a public-facing job as originally outlined in her contract.
