In accordance with a decision of the ICAO Council, three-letter designators are being applied for all current purposes with effect from 25 October This document contains details of the three-letter designators which have been reserved for use by aircraft operating agencies, aeronautical authorities and services at the time of publication. For the convenience of message originators, the document also includes the postal and telecommunications addresses commercial and aeronautical of government civil aviation authorities.
General 1. Detailed processing instructions on how to use the system are contained in the online webpage. Any such designator so released will not be reassigned until a period of at least 60 days has elapsed. E 2. Three-letter designators 2. These designators are not listed in this document. E 3. Telephony designators 3. Ideally it should reflect correlation between the three-letter designator, the telephony designator and the name of the aircraft operating agency or its function examples: ARO β ARROW β Arrow Aviation; RAJ β RAJI β Raji Airlines ; b in order to reduce the length of transmission the telephony designator should be brief, comprising if possible one word of two or three syllables.
It should not exceed two words; c three-letter designators may not be used in phonetic form as telephony designators. When call-sign similarity difficulties concern the telephony designator, the civil aviation authority concerned should coordinate efforts to resolve the problem. This may require submission to ICAO for a change in one or both of the conflicting telephony designators.
