With thick smoke in the middle of the night, neighbors report waking up to the smell, worried their own homes were on fire. In the early morning hours on Sunday, several neighbors on Gail Drive woke up to the smell of thick smoke wafting into their homes.
Waterbury firefighters responded to the home at the bottom of a hill down a dead end road. Georgiana Harvis lives just a couple houses down and she said it was so dark and there was so much smoke. And fire engines and people running and ambulances taking people away. All five people living inside were sent to the hospital, two adults and three children. We do not know the severity of their injuries or their conditions at this time, but fire officials told us they were walking when they first arrived.
