According to Sara, around 2, locals come through the doors each month. Take your pick from fitness sessions, karate, art, knitting and crochet or dance classes. There really is something for everyone. However, GBHC is especially popular with young children and their families. Furthermore, the hugely popular school holiday programme runs during the holidays. From sports to baking, tamariki enjoy a variety of adventures.
The older generation is also well catered for at the community house. These include chair yoga, creative colouring, social art group, card making, and much more. GBHC is a charitable trust, and Sara says that funding can be hard to come by. The community trust applied to the Your West Support Fund for help with essential costs. Sara explains that the meeting room is now comfortable and welcoming, which has made a difference to visitors.
The ever-popular playground is around 25 years old and suffering from wear and tear. Sara says that the Your West Support Fund kickstarted fundraising efforts, helping attract the support of other funders, including the Ministry of Education and a Lottery Community Facilities Grant.
