Changing the frame of reference, playing with speed and timing, using mindful repetition and displacement — it turns out that these textbook techniques of anger management are fruitful methods of choreographic composition as well. The grand finale to all of this linear movement is coming up this month. The Olympic Games are not the only hot ticket this summer in France. Thanks to all of the people who have helped us get so far, including our dancers, designers, supporters and programmers!
Our ambitious tour to Australia and China was a big success. A total of 23 performances were attended by a total of 4, spectators. A further people took part in five dance workshops — a very fun opportunity to share practices with local dancers, actors, visual artists and children. Many of the performances were sold out. One local custom which rather touched us was the sheer number of audience members who requested to take selfies with out team after each performance.
And what better place and time to show our sporty choreography than right before the start of the Olympics? This month, local Swiss fans can look forward to a special collaboration between the Joshua Monten Dance Company and the Bernese historical music ensemble Die Freitagsakademie. Performances are planned from October at the Tojo Theater in Bern. Yes, an unusual location for baroque music, but also strangely fitting for the new staging. In a secluded clearing a group of four dancers engage in that most fundamental of all dance activities: dancing to the beat.
Check out our trailer below. And keep an eye out for the indoor version of the piece, which will premiere in Hameln D and Berlin in November. August was no vacation time for us, but the rather the culmination of months of preparation. Festival in Durban. More translations ahead. Too far for you? You can also come and see us in Biel on May 23rd.
Or take a look at our trailer. Our Romeos are going to be spending a lot of time in France this year. To mark the occasion we have a new French dancer joining our Romeo team, Bryan Doisy. In the past two years our company has launched an initiative to bring more dance into Swiss schools. The company typically spends a half day at each school, first giving an on-site performance and then offering dance workshops for individual school classes.
