Hi Comtoise experts, I've just acquired this clock and case and trying to find out more about the case style. It's carved oak, very heavy. There's not a nail or screw to be found anywhere, it's all dowel jointed. I've seen pictures of similar cases described as being from Normandy and Burgundy and dating from the late 18th C.
But the information I'm getting all seems a bit vague. The clock itself is an iron caged, lantern style with feet, runs for 30 hrs and strikes on a bell. Can anyone help with more detailed info? I hope I can upload the pictures OK. Many thanks, David. Jan 22, 8 18 Houston, Texas Country Region. Hi, It is interesting that this type clock is showing up again.
It probably is a Normandy Lantern Clock. Google that and see what you come up with. There is not alot about them, but I also recently obtained one and still trying to learn about it. Do a search here because of a couple of threads about this.
