Delocalization and relocalization of material culture happen on different scales—not only between different continents, but also within the same country or inside a single apartment, as Brigitte Derlon and Monique Jeudy-Ballini demonstrate with the example of African art collectors in Paris. In this case, relocation is a form of recreation: at an institutional or at an individual level, the people relocalizing objects give them a signification, and freeze, even temporarily, in a potential identity.
