The Austin Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Monday in a parking lot near Barton Springs Pool, department officials said at a news conference.
Just before 3 p. Monday, emergency responders arrived at a parking lot in the block of Azie Morton Road, where they found an injured man who a caller said had been struck by a car, police spokesperson Leah Ratliff said at the news conference. After life-saving efforts were attempted, the man was taken to a hospital where he died, Ratliff said. Homicide detectives were then called to investigate the scene, she said.
She did not identify the male victim. Ratliff said the homicide "appeared to be an isolated incident between specific individuals," but did not specify whether any arrests had been made, and she did not provide a description of the vehicle or driver.
She said more information would be released at a later date. Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Austin Police Department at Tips can be submitted anonymously through Capital Area Crime Stoppers by visiting austincrimestoppers. Officials are continuing to investigate after a Newton County man released from jail was found dead days later.
