The goal is clear. Victory Christian Academy, a K-through school in Chula Vista with students, wants to play basketball with the big boys. They were on a roll. Victory Christian did all of those things Saturday afternoon, racing to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter and never really being challenged. Sage Creek managed to cut the deficit to three at with to play in the first half, but Victory Christian quickly had it back to seven at the break.
The lead ballooned to 10 late in the third quarter and Sage Creek never got closer than eight the rest of the way. Isaiah and Troy were scoring, so it was best for the team for me to handle the ball, distribute, hit the open man. I think we can win Division 1. Elijah Stephens, a 6-foot-8 power forward, led Sage Creek with 16 points. And he had 11 rebounds. Montgomery 65, San Diego Devin Hamilton scored 22 points as top-ranked Montgomery, which trailed by six just before halftime, outscored San Diego by 20 over the final 18 minutes.
Isaiah Marte led ninth-ranked San Diego with 22 points. Dylan Griffin paced UC with 18 points. Charlie Barajas had 16 for Scripps Ranch.
