A Columbus man who prosecutors say attempted to have a person he believed responsible for his brother's death killed β including threatening a witness on recorded calls from the Franklin County jail β will spend more than 20 years behind bars.
Dillan Bush, 22, of the Far West Side, pleaded guilty Thursday to felonious assault, attempted murder, having a weapon while under disability, possession of drugs and discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premise. In August , a man reported to police his house on Morningside Drive in the Westland area had been shot at by an unknown car that drove by, with bullets striking the house and the man's car.
On Sept. An investigation determined homes in the area had been shot at multiple times since April The investigation led detectives to Bush's cellphone, court records say. Bush's brother, David Bush, died in March after what police determined to be an accidental shooting. Court records say Dillan Bush had made threats to a man he believed to be responsible for his brother's death.
Dillan Bush's phone was found during an unrelated investigation and evidence on the phone showed Bush had been in communication with another person, who Bush convinced to shoot at the home on Morningside Drive.
Bush was arrested in an unrelated incident and was in custody at the Franklin County jail at the time of the August shooting. Court records say calls by Bush from the jail that are recorded also proved incriminating, including making statements that were directed at a possible witness in the case.
