At the outset of the series, Piper is portrayed as a relatively innocent woman who aims to remain on her best behavior and avoid conflict with the other inmates while quietly serving her time. However, as the series progresses and she spends more time in prison, Piper's true personality begins to surface.
She is revealed to be cruel, selfish, spoiled, sanctimonious, and willing to manipulate others to achieve her desires. Flashbacks reveal that Piper has always possessed a selfish side.
