Tweet Facebook Mail. A sex worker jailed over her involvement in the "brutal and sustained" bashing death of a Queensland man she organised to meet via Craigslist could be released within a year. The mother-of-three wept as Justice David Boddice said she had been involved in a "cynical exercise" whereby she would advertise her sexual services to clients while another man robbed them.
Justice Boddice sentenced her to seven years' jail, but ordered she be eligible for parole from June 2 next year given the time she has already spent in custody. Crown prosecutor Phil McCarthy said Mr Spencer had met Lorang-Goubran the year before his death and started a casual sexual relationship that ended acrimoniously. But Mr Spencer had no idea it was her he was contacting when he responded to a Craigslist ad from a woman offering sex in exchange for drugs and when she arrived at his home Lorang-Goubran brought with her a man who would allegedly beat him to death.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly struck Mr Spencer nine times in a brutal and protracted assault. After Mr Spencer's death, Mr McCarthy said a bloodied tennis racquet and baseball bat were found nearby, with a pathologist finding his facial injuries had obstructed his airways. The Crown acknowledged Lorang-Goubran hadn't actually carried out the attack but would have known Mr Spencer's death was a "probable outcome" of the scheme.
Justice Boddice noted her dysfunctional upbringing and "genuine contrition" but described Mr Spencer's death as an act of "senseless violence". The other man is still before the courts.
