When my sending unit was bad in my xj it did the same thing, stayed pegged out at the top of the gauge. Took about 10 minutes to replace and the gauge was back working fine. Posted 09 January - PM.
Less expensive than OEM, with a warranty! Got the new one installed, but the oil pressure reading is still a lot higher than normal. It used to idle at about 30, now it idles at 50psi. At rmp I'm sitting at 60 psi. Community Forum Software by IP.

Posted 09 January - AM Got in the XJ, fired it up, and got about half a mile up the road when I noticed the oil pressure was pegged at the top of its dial, 80 psi. The engine was running fine, no loss of power, no strange noises, normal rpms. I immediately got the Jeep back to the house and parked it.
There isn't any evidence of leaks in the driveway. In fact, other than the oil pressure guage being pegged I didn't notice anything unusual.
What do I need to check? We don't need no stinking frames! A frame on a Jeep is like a brace on the leg of an injured person - it's there because it's helping something that's weak.
