The new food hall, which was originally billed as a replacement of sorts for the vibrant, chaotic food cart pod that this building and the nearby Ritz-Carlton knocked down, was first announced publicly in , with an opening date pegged for that November.
Over that time, several of the originally announced vendors left the project, with many privately citing the extensive delays and high rent as their primary reasons for backing out. The diversity of food offerings and cultures is another defining characteristic at Flock, Fang said. For many involved in creating Flock, revitalizing Portland and showcasing the best of the city to travelers was the goal.
The team is also excited to begin hosting events and pop-ups in the future. Inspired by First Thursdays in the Pearl District, organizers are coordinating summer markets and other community events. Coming up, Flock has events planned for February including a supercar high-performance sports car Super Bowl viewing party Feb.
