Lydia and I spent a drunken night plastering these flyers to whatever surfaces they would stick to. Then we went to a back room bar somewhere on Avenue A where I dimly recall sitting on a cardboard box drinking many shots of vodka. Mudd was packed. The flyer neglected to mention that we would be reading, not playing music, which created a bit of friction between the audience and the performers.
Mudd had recently had a fire [ The fire had burned a hole in the floor of the VIP room above the main floor, so Steve Mass [Mudd club owner] enlarged the hole and made the main floor the stage and put the audience in stadium seating on the floor above. I had brought a boom box and was reciting lyrics to drum tracks I had created using a record called Drum Drops. It did not go over well. The booing was plentiful. A friend of mine in the audience got in a fight with the person sitting next to him.
I wish I could say I remembered the performances of the other artists on the bill but as I said, I was a touch drunk. Nevertheless, it was a night I shall remember as best I can with fondness. Flyer: Scan of flyer.
