Nicole took to the online classifieds website on the heels of a relationship that went south. She was living in North Carolina and moved back to her hometown of Livermore after the breakup. Nicole admits her expectations were pretty low, and within three to four days of posting her personal ad, she had about responses.
One, however, stood out. After all, there is no shortage of personals listed on Craigslist and coming across the right one often takes some digging. The pair hit it off immediately.
Nicole said she felt comfortable with James, who took her to a Chinese restaurant he frequented, and she was impressed by his rapport with the staff. James ended up being the only person Nicole met up with from her ad. Sometimes it only takes one. The duo learned they had both attended Granada High School in Livermore at the same time he graduated in and she in though they never crossed paths.
They also learned they had a specific quirk in common; they both kept Excel spreadsheets of their movie collections a tradition the couple kept up for a while but abandoned when they started buying digital movies instead. Instead of running scared when she admitted this little tidbit, James took it as a challenge. Sure enough, seven months in, the couple began to discuss marriage. So what took Nicole so long to catch up?
She was hung up on the fact that they had never had a fight. For the proposal, James incorporated details from their first two dates β a trip to that Chinese restaurant, stargazing on a hill and slow dancing in the bed of his truck.
