According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, a study published by the Centre for Economic Policy Research concludes that playing sports at least once a month may have as big an impact on your long-run earnings as an additional year of schooling.
The study author, Michael Lechner of the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, concludes that some of the benefit could be chalked up to social networking. While helping you with that networking, team sports can provide many other benefits, too, such as getting regular exercise which releases endorphins in the brain, relieving stress, reducing depression, and making you feel good. Team sports build leadership skills, enhance self-confidence, and encourage collaboration, goal setting, persistence, and resilience.
