Gisele Pelicot 's daughter has revealed how her mother had breakfast with her father, now dubbed the 'Monster of Avignon', on the morning he was arrested for drugging her and allowing her to be raped by dozens of men including himself. Caroline Darian, who has detailed her family's agony in a new memoir, I'll Never Call Him Dad Again, has laid bare the chillingly ordinary morning her parents had shared together before Gisele's life was turned upside down by revelations of her husband's depravity.
The book tells how, on November 2, , Gisele ate breakfast as normal with her 'astonishingly calm' husband before they were due to travel to the police station in Carpentras together in relation to what she thought was her husband's upskirting arrest. Dominique, Gisele's husband of nearly 50 years, had been arrested two months earlier after being caught trying to capture photos up women's skirts in an E.
Leclerc supermarket. Upon his arrest, Caroline says, the Monster of Avignon told his wife he had done 'something really stupid' and explained it away, meaning his wife had chosen to stick by him. On the morning Dominique was due to visit the police station in relation to the incident, Caroline writes that she followed her husband 'blithely unaware of what awaited her' when she was shown photos of her husband drugging her before inviting dozens of men to rape her while she was unconscious - which were found on his computer after it was seized in the upskirting investigation.
She describes how her father calmly agrees to go with a police officer into an interview room, 'convinced he can work his way out of the situation'. That was the last time Gisele would see her husband before learning the sickening truth of his depravity; as an hour later she too was called into an interview room, where she was confronted with photos of herself, unconscious, 'lying on her stomach with a man behind her'.
Gisele, 72, has since become a face of bravery as her husband's sickening crimes against her in a nine-year campaign of abuse have been played out in court, earning him the nickname the Monster of Avignon. Last month, he was jailed for 20 years for drugging her and recruiting strangers to rape her, and also raping her himself.
