Topic: Courts. Carl Ditterich starred for the St Kilda and Melbourne football clubs from to Victorian prosecutors have dropped a sexual assault case against Australian Rules great Carl Ditterich, who was due to stand trial in the County Court.
Mr Ditterich, 79, was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the 80s. Specific details of why the case was discontinued were not revealed. Last year, Mr Ditterich pleaded not guilty to charges of committing a sexual act in front of the then-teenager, indecently assaulting her by touching her breast and genitals, and placing her hand on his penis. The court heard Mr Ditterich was in a sporadic sexual relationship with the complainant's mother at the time of the alleged incident in August , when he was aged Mr Ditterich was charged by police after the complainant came forward in The woman at the centre of the case gave evidence before a magistrates' court committal hearing, with prosecutors also seeking to rely on diary entries she made around the time of the alleged encounters.
During the committal, Mr Ditterich's lawyer, Rush Shann SC, said her client was facing "horrible and defective" allegations from "an alleged brief encounter". The defence barrister called on a magistrate to discharge her client, arguing the woman's evidence was unreliable.
