Description of update: Date of death: On Saturday, 16 July , while passing the finish line of the second qualifying heat for the 24th edition of the "Butterball Wooldridge Memorial", a race named in honor of Paul "Butterball" Wooldridge, his uncle, Billy Wooldridge's car suddenly accelerated and took down a portion of guardrail, traveling across the infield.
It spun and came to rest in turn two. The driver was found unconscious and quickly removed to a nearby hospital.
He was transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he passed away two days later. Paramedics at the track recognized the symptoms of heart attack and he was rushed by ambulance to nearby Bedford County Memorial Hospital, where he died the following morning.
A week after his death, a brief memorial was conducted at the track in Bert Alberter's honor. He was taken to hospital where he died two days later. He was survived by his wife Marilu and three children, Arthur, Kitty, and Bobby.
