They were all about 1 year apart. The family moved to the Yorkton area - the current farm site from the Homefield area Ituna when Gilbert was about 9, around Their first crop was in The 3 kids went to the Raymond Country School which was a few miles away. Gil went to the Yorkton Collegiate until grade 8.
As well as farming, Gilbert also worked at Ross Fuel Oil delivering fuel when he and Joan started dating. He was 22 at that time. They met on a blind date and this November would have marked 60 years of marriage. Gil and Joan were married in and moved out to the farm in to the new house.
He then started farming full time. Over the next number of years, Gil and Joan had 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Gilbert had lots of hobbies that kept him busy and entertained through the years. He loved playing cards, whether it was just him and Joan, a great poker game with friends or just himself winning at Solitaire.
Anyone who had the pleasure of playing with him knew he was a great adversary, and he usually came out on the winning end! In the earlier years when the kids were growing up you would find them camping predominantly at Good Spirit Lake, but also around the province at Madge, Greenwater or Kenosee Provincial Parks.
There was always a fire going, ready for any visitors. He enjoyed snowmobiling as well and in the later years loved gardening just like his mother and did a stint with Joan in the Farmer's Market where his creativeness came to light.
