Last year, a year-old girl was advertised as an escort on Denver Backpage. The teen, who was suspended from school in Colorado Springs, met with an ex-boyfriend whose friends brought her to Denver for a life she did not expect β working as a prostitute for middle-aged johns responding to online ads. Suthers joined 45 other prosecutors from the National Association of Attorneys General who sent a letter to Backpage. The association tracked more than 50 instances in 22 states over three years where charges were filed against people who were trafficking or attempting to traffic minors on Backpage.
The attorneys general have asked Backpage. Village Voice Media executives have said they already try to police the advertisements and ask posters not to engage in criminal activity such as prostitution. A link on the Denver Backpage. The ads for her services were posted on Backpage.
The association hopes the pressure will persuade the company to shut down the escort services ads. The same strategy was used by prosecutors a year ago to get Craigslist.
