I think it is a good idea, prostitution has been around forever and I don't see it ever going away, so accept it and get on with it. At least it will be safer for the prositutes and the "John's" and it will keep them off other corners and out of sight. I feel that a "tolerence zone" in Manchester is a very good idea, many things have been tried in the past to prevent prostitution within cities, but they never work.
Creating this area in an industrial estate will take it away from residential areas. At the end of the day I feel that, if people are happy about selling sex a product and people are willing to buy it, which there are, then nothing will stop it happening.
Due to the regeneration of Ancoats urban village and the new developments on both sides of Great Ancoats Street eg 'marina' complex , the 'industrial' zone is no more. They occassionally cruise near the piccadilly village residential development. One of your readers likes the idea of prostitutes in 'industrial' areas, not residential.
We should know however that much of this 'industrial zone' is either become chic residential or is protected by the national heritage. Should we then allow prostitution in historic and cultural districts more then we allow in bland suburbia?
I would say no, as the latter presents themselves as far better working environment. I totally disagree with the recent article in ManchesterOnline stating that Manchester should have a prostitution tolerance zone.
