I read a disturbing column today by Kathleen Parker, a syndicated columnist from the Orlando Sentinel. Young people don't date anymore. They just hook up. I wasn't surprised by this. Hooking up was common when I was in the dating game about 15 years ago.
But there were some guys who actually asked you out. And they were the type you could take home to mom. In fact one thing that really impressed me about my now husband when we were dating was that we dated. He'd call me up, invite me somewhere and, until we were officially an item, he paid.
I guess I'm old-fashioned. But even in my day, I didn't like the guys who said, "Why don't you just come on over. The column suggests that women -- perhaps more than men -- really need the sense of relationship that comes with dating, rather than just hooking up.
Of course. What's wrong with that. I my mind, that doesn't make women weaker; it just makes them different than men. And by men, I mean some men because I truly believe many men need a relationship, too. What do you think? Post a comment.
