A mix of clouds and sun early followed by cloudy skies this afternoon. High 58F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.. Updated: February 2, am. Good riddance!! Arrivederci, aroma! Don't let the door hit you on your way out! Then again, if it does, nobody would care! Granted, January always feels like a long month--mainly because of the weather. But, I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking January, felt it lasted 10 years.
Oh sure, there were winter storms--but in Florida? No, there were plenty of other occurrences that made for a crummy month. You start with the horrific terrorist attack in New Orleans only three hours into the New Year. Then, there were the destructive wildfires in southern California. As if January didn't have enough tragedy, the month ended with terrible plane crashes in Washington, D.
Indications are February could be just as crummy: Punxutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, meaning six more weeks of winter.
There's one event that should have made January a little more tolerable--another Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl march. The Chiefs' victory over the Buffalo Bills in last week's AFC Championship should have been a time to rejoice--especially if you're a Chiefs' fan. The fact that Patrick Mahomes and company have a chance to three-peat should be respected by the national sports media and all sports fans. Instead, the Chiefs' victory added to an already horrible month.
All week long, the Chiefs' and their fans were subjected to pure unadulterated hate. All you had to do is listen to the bobbleheads on TV and radio sports talk shows, and read the poison pen posts on Facebook, X and other social media with this message: the Chiefs won because of the officiating.
