Algeria is a key player when it comes to resolving regional issues and conflicts in North and West Africa. Due to its geographical location, it is particularly affected by the political and security situation in the Sahel.
I therefore believe it is important that we step up the political dialogue between Germany and Algeria on regional security and that we understand the position and perspectives on the ground. Furthermore, a key appointment during my trip will be the official opening of the National Public Museum of Cherchell.
To me, this cooperation is a particularly impressive example of our vibrant cultural relations, which we want to place on an even broader footing. Another thing which is especially important to me is the exchange with Algerian civil society, particularly with young people. That is why I will be visiting the University of Algiers 2 and will be having a discussion with students of German there. While in the country, she will have political talks with high-ranking representatives of the Government, culture professionals as well as members of civil society.
The talks will focus on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in the sphere of regional security and stability as well as intensifying cultural exchange. The demand for German language courses is growing steadily in Algeria.
